ICLEI Canada
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of more than 2,000 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 100+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient, and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships, and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability. ICLEI Canada’s work happens across Turtle Island which has traditionally been and is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples since time immemorial. We endeavour to listen to and learn from Indigenous Peoples on an ongoing basis in the process of our work.
As an organization that works with communities across the country, ICLEI Canada is in touch with municipal, climate, and sustainability practitioners on a daily basis. We hear about successes and challenges — about initiatives that yield results and barriers that impede progress. The Livable Cities Forum is an opportunity for local leaders and practitioners to hear about these as well, exchange ideas, and find solutions.
City of Mississauga
The City of Mississauga is located on the Traditional Territory and Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and is situated on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Peel. Mississauga is a young city that has rapidly grown into a major hub for innovation and economic development. Mississauga is one of Canada’s most globally connected and culturally diverse cities. Residents hail from every part of the world and our diverse energies help fuel a vibrancy and openness to the world that makes Mississauga truly unique.
The City of Mississauga is excited to host the 2023 Livable Cities Forum – Moving from intention to implementation. Adapting to climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability is a complex task that requires the effort and experience of everyone. We all have a role to play in building more vibrant, livable and sustainable communities and I look forward to welcoming you to Mississauga for this exciting opportunity to share knowledge and experiences as we work towards a low carbon and resilient future for all.
Canadian Urban Institute
The Canadian Urban Institute is the national platform that houses the best in Canadian city building – where policymakers, urban professionals, civic and business leaders, community activists and academics can learn, share and collaborate with one another from coast to coast to coast. Through research, engagement and storytelling, CUI promotes effective policies and best practices for building vibrant cities, supporting post-pandemic recovery, and increasing climate resilience. CUI connects and amplifies the diverse voices of urban Canada, in service of a shared value that urbanism is for everyone, and urbanism must include everyone.
As we emerge from the pandemic, we are now presented with accelerated social, economic, and technological upheavals. Nowhere in this country is this more evident than in our cities, which have driven Canada’s innovation capacity for six decades. The recovery of the country depends on our cities emerging stronger, more equitable, and more resilient. Our cities need rapid, locally informed, regionally coordinated, and nationally supported solutions more urgently than ever. The Canadian Urban Institute is proud to partner with the Livable Cities Forum to foster the necessary exchange of innovative ideas and actionable plans between leading policymakers, urban professionals and on-the-ground practitioners, to help build more dynamic and equitable cities.
