Host
ICLEI Canada
ICLEI Canada is thrilled to be hosting the 12th Livable Cities Forum this year. This prominent event has been bringing together Canadian municipal practitioners and local leaders to explore how to build livable cities since 2011.
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of more than 2,500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient, and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships, and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability. ICLEI Canada’s work happens across Turtle Island which has traditionally been and is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples since time immemorial. We endeavour to listen to and learn from Indigenous Peoples on an ongoing basis in the process of our work.
It’s clear that local governments cannot keep pace with the scale of change required if we build one solution at a time. In order to meet the challenge of climate change, we need to multisolve — a concept we introduced to the municipal climate space at the 2019 Livable Cities Forum. Through multisolving we aim to solve many problems through one investment of time or money. We are looking forward to hearing how local leaders, municipal practitioners, and urban professionals apply this approach in their work to reach climate goals, access innovative financing, and address equity priorities.

Co-operators
Co-operators is a leading Canadian financial services co-operative, offering multi-line insurance and investment products, services, and personalized advice that drive toward our purpose – Financial security for Canadians and our communities. We bring our vision to be a catalyst for a resilient and sustainable society to life through our products and services, community partnerships, and investments. In 2023, we had invested 48.4% of our total portfolio – $5.9 billion – into climate transition and impact investments that measurably address the world’s pressing environmental and social issues. By 2030, 60% of our invested assets will be directed to impact, climate transition and resilience investments, helping to move Canada towards its net zero targets and build climate resilient communities from coast to coast to coast. As a carbon neutral organization, Co-operators is also committed to achieving net zero emissions in its operations and investments by 2040, and 2050, respectively. As we continue our work of building community resilience in the face of rapidly rising risks, we’re proud to work in close collaboration with ICLEI to assemble the whole-of-society partnerships that will be required to meet the climate crisis head on. Through the Livable Cities Forum, we can gain insights from people working on the ground in communities across our country, dive into the issues that matter, and work together to build the imaginative, collaborative solutions that will help accelerate Canada towards a more sustainable, resilient future.
Federation of Canadian Municipalities
FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF) is a globally unique organization providing funding and education to municipalities to help them both reach net-zero and build resilient communities, while also delivering economic and social benefits such as jobs, housing and infrastructure. Since inception in 2000, it has helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.87 million tonnes, funded nearly 13,000 person-years of employment, enabled nearly 30,000 sustainable affordable housing units, and contributed $1.2 billion to the national GDP via the more than 2,100 approved projects. GMF manages approximately $2.4 billion in programs funded by the Government of Canada.
As rural areas and cities alike continue to face mounting climate challenges, it’s crucial that we prioritize adaptation strategies that not only safeguard our infrastructure but also enhance the livability of our spaces. FCM is committed to leading impactful climate adaptation efforts, and participating in events like the Livable Cities Forum allows us to share and enhance our strategies, ensuring that Canadian local governments are equipped to respond to climate threats and proactively transform them into opportunities for sustainable growth. Our collaboration with ICLEI Canada underscores our dedication to fostering a network where collective efforts translate into meaningful community resilience.

Evergreen
With over 30 years of championing urban sustainability, we see the potential of our cities to solve some of the biggest issues facing our time and believe that our public spaces are the key to unlocking it. We see beyond the spaces that exist today and imagine them transformed into places where people and nature thrive. And we see a future where everyone can live a healthy life on a healthy planet.
Evergreen is proud to partner with ICLEI Canada for their 2024 Livable Cities Forum. As flooding, wildfires and extreme weather events become all too common in our communities, working together with people and organizations who are committed to building more resilient communities has never been more important. Just as Evergreen works with our hands in the dirt towards this goal through the transformation of public spaces, ICLEI’s engagement with municipalities to provide essential tools to set us on the path to net-zero, has never been more important. The Livable Cities Forum is a must for any municipal leader or climate practitioner looking to learn, network and exchange ideas in service of creating a better future.
